Here is what you can expect from the first three sessions…
Our first session is all about getting to know you. What is bringing you in? Why is now the right time? Where did things begin? Actually, your therapist will ask you those exact questions. This is a time for us to get to see if we will be a good fit for each other. At the end of your session your therapist will talk to you about whether a Sexual History Assessment will be helpful for your time together.
If your therapist believes a Sexual History Assessment will be helpful for the process, they will provide you with more information about what that looks like. The Sexual History Assessment looks at you as a whole person, your family life, relationships throughout your life, where you gained sexual health knowledge, your current relationship, your likes, interests, dislikes… our goal is to get to the core of what is going on instead of just putting a bandaid on your situation. This Sexual History Assessment helps us have quality sessions with you moving forward.
This is where we dive into your Sexual History Assessment. Before your session you will fill out a 16 + page packet about your life. Your therapist will look at this before your second session. You might request for them to look at it during the session, or even for you all to complete it together. If your therapist looks at your Sexual History Assessment before your session, they will be looking at what additional questions they have for you based on what you’ve provided. This session is for you to go through those additional questions, or observations that your therapist is curious about in understanding you and what you’re coming in for. This is one of the most important parts to the process. It allows for your therapist to know what might be helpful based on understanding you and your situation to its fullest.
This is when we game plan together. When therapy is over, what do you hope to have accomplished? Your therapist will guide you through this process and you together, will define specific, actionable goals for your time together. This plan will help you know what you will work on in and out of the session.
